Our Public Records Policy
Alabama Code Section 36-12-40 makes public records available to Alabama citizens, subject to exceptions specified by law. These exceptions generally prevent the disclosure of privileged or otherwise protected information and communications, including that which could potentially compromise the security of state facilities, systems, or software.The Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission seeks to serve the citizens of Alabama by complying with Section 36-12-40 to the fullest extent possible. Please note, many records maintained by the AMCC are available online through the official website. These records may be accessed, inspected, and obtained electronically by any member of the public at any time at no cost.
Alabama law permits the collection of reasonable fees for processing public records requests. As of July 1, 2023, AMCC charges a fee of $1.00 per page to produce copies of public records for citizens using State of Alabama employees, equipment, and other resources. Additional fees may apply for printed copies of records.
Please note, the type and volume of records requested will determine the availability and time required to process a public records request.

What To Expect
The Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission strives to respond as promptly as possible to all public records requests received which are consistent with our agency’s functions as determined by state law.
The nature of your request will dictate how promptly the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission responds. If your request very clearly identifies a specific, discrete document you are looking for, we will respond more quickly than if your request requires substantial staff time to process. A request will require substantial staff time to process if there is difficulty in identifying and retrieving documents or taking measures to redact or otherwise withhold legally protected information.
In addition, the Alabama Medical Cannabis Commission is permitted by state law to charge reasonable fees in connection with processing public records requests. We will notify you in advance of the fees you will likely incur as a result of your request.
